One of the scientists instrumental in confirming the find of the slave ship Clotilda said Monday night that that aside from the obvious historical significance of the discovery, it provides a priceless lesson for young explorers: It shows that the world still holds unexplored territory full of unknown wonders and they’re often closer than you think.

Marine archaeologist James Delgado spoke Monday night in Mobile at the 25th Biennial Conference of the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF).
